Bermant first saw that promise back in 1978, as a student at
Utah State University. Congress had just passed a law requiring
coal mines to reclaim - and replant - their diggings. The mining
companies needed seeds, and Bermant, who was studying range management,
knew where to find them. He rounded up a few fellow students,
directed them to ripened stands of grasses and shrubs, and promised
to pay by the pound for any seeds they collected. Soon, he had

into bags and onto dropcloths, for drying, cleaning and sale.

Names out of Mermant's botany textbooks became inventory items

muttongrass (Poa fendleriana), bluebunch wheatgrass (Elymus spicatus),
skeleton buckwheat (Eriogonum deflexum), coyote tobacco (Nicotiana
attenuata), mountain hawksbeard (Crepis acuminata), broom snakeweed
(Gutierrezia sarothrae).

'I've always been kind of an entrepreneur,' says
Bermant, who now owns the biggest seed-distributing company in
the West. His company, Granite Seed Co., is located just outside
of Lehi, an agricultural town sandwiched between Salt Lake City
and Provo, in the shadow of the Wasatch Mountains. Bermant won't
say how much he's worth, but his three large warehouses currently
shelter 3 million pounds of seed, from both exotic and native
plants. Last year, he sold 5 million pounds of seed mix to the

by the Rodeo-Chediski Fire on the White Mountain Apache Reservation
in Arizona. Half of that was native seed, and some of it, such

Profile: Meg Hourihan - Feature - Tufts University: "After a childhood spent playing around on her mom's Apple II computer and learning elementary programming languages at school in Brookline, Mass., her early interest in math and science gave way to an emphasis on literature and writing by her senior year of high school.

'By the time I got to Tufts, the only thing I was using a computer for was writing papers, then helping other people format their papers in Microsoft Word,' the English major recalls. While temping after graduation, she found herself working a lot in desktop publishing, mostly due to her skill with Microsoft Word.

When one investment firm decided to post its prospectuses on the web, Hourihan jumped at the chance to teach herself HTML and spearhead the project.

There was no turning back. 'That was it, I was hooked,' she says.

As she moved on to work for a consulting firm, she evangelized about the web being the next step for businesses. Her technological interests finally found their outlet.

'It wasn't until the connectivity of the Web really came along that I realized what was really interesting about it all for me,' she says.

Blogger emerged at the height of the dot-com bubble, and for Hourihan and her hard-working Blogger colleagues, it was a crazy time. Companies sprung up overnight promising 'the next big thing' for the web, and venture capitalists threw funding at them freely."

Air conditioner coils | Ask MetaFilter: "We just had our 2-3 year old AC looked at because of ice on coils. There are coils on the outside unit which you can clean yourself with a hose and sprayer. There are also coils in the inside unit. Those would be the ones to form ice. Cleaning those might do some good depending on how old the inside unit is, but you would really want to fix what is causing the ice. In our case the filters (electronic but that does not matter really) were so packed with cat hair, lint, and dirt that there was not enough air flow to the coils. When that happened the coils iced up and the AC barely cooled. Our AC guy told us to keep the filters cleaned and be sure the air intake in the wall was no restricted/blocked. After cleaning the filters and the ice melted it has worked great.
Our AC guy told me that we should see a 15-20 degree drop between the intake and vent temps. Our unit is in a closet with both intake and vent very close to check this.
Not particularly part of every icy coil problem, but we also had trouble with the drip/drain pan's drain pipe on our unit. It was blocked outside which backed up water when the ice melted and tripped the float sensor. The float sensor turns off the outside unit and leaves the inside unit running in 'fan mode', no cooling. For a week we had poor cooling with ice forming and melting and turning off the outside unit which was all remedied by cleaning filters and clearing the drain pipe.
When having the unit looked at get the freon levels checked too."

If I were you, I would buy an x3 Accent, (so far, I think there have been many more x3 Beta swaps than there have been with the newer LC) and find a good quality Beta motor (they can be found on e-bay fairly regularly) and do that swap. The Beta can be swapped in with the Beta transmission OR it can be used with the Accent transmission too, if you prefer.

Many other Tiburon/Elantra piece fit the x3 Accent too... the front brakes are one example I can think of right now."
